Install in a few steps.

  1. Open the DMG and drag Screen Recorder.app to Applications. Then open it from Applications.
  2. Replacing an older copy? Quit the recorder first.
  3. Allow Screen Recording when asked. macOS asks for microphone and camera access only when you turn them on.
  4. Your recordings are saved on your Mac, in Movies › Recordings unless you choose another folder.

If you are updating from version 0.3.0 or earlier, macOS will ask for screen recording access again and you will need to choose your save folder again.

System requirements

  • A Mac with Apple silicon. There is no Intel version.
  • macOS 15 or later. Recording a single window needs macOS 15.2 or later.
  • Captions use speech recognition on your Mac. macOS may need the internet once to download it.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Which should I choose?

The Mac App Store, if it’s available where you live: it keeps the app up to date for you. The direct download is the same app, for anywhere the App Store version isn’t offered yet.

Is the direct download safe?

Yes. The app is signed with our Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS checks it before it opens. You can also compare the SHA-256 checksum below.

How do I update the direct download?

Download the new version from this page, quit the recorder, and replace the app in Applications. Your recordings stay where they are.

Does it work on an Intel Mac?

No. Mac Screen Recorder needs a Mac with Apple silicon.
